MallNation
In 2013, Ryan and Michael DeForge created an animated TV show that was in-development at Cartoon Network in 2014. "MallNation" is about entire student body of an elementary school living together inside a shopping mall - sort of our goofy version of "Freaks and Geeks" meets "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." The show is centered on three siblings who band together to navigate roaming gangs of school cliques, escaped pet shop animals, and other strange surprises while building a cooperative kid nation within their new home.
For more details on the show (including Michael's designs and excerpts from the storyboards) please see the MallNation page. [[column]]The Strange Tale of Panorama Island
Ryan translated and co-edited this lush and sinister manga by Suehiro Maruo and Edogawa Ranpo in 2013 for Last Gasp. As with Tokyo Zombie, longtime collaborator Evan Hayden handled all lettering, touch-up, and book design for the release.
The Strange Tale of Panorama Island was published by Last Gasp on July 1, 2013, and was nominated for the "Best Adaptation from Another Medium" Eisner Award in 2014. This book marked the first publication of Maruo's work in English in more than 12 years.
